BoingBoing Goes To The Biggest Tech Show In Nepal
As somebody who's been going to the big Consumer Electronics Show for four years now - and honestly it feels like far longer than that - I found BoingBoing's report from Nepal's biggest tech show pretty fascinating. For one thing, in a country without reliable electrical service, generators are big business. Indeed, the Sony booth was lit with the help of giant aluminum-foil reflectors. iPhones have yet to hit Nepal; the big manufacturers were showing off gear that debuted in the West two or three years ago. And the standards for signage are understandably somewhat looser than at CES.
And yet, none of the show-goers would look out of place at CES, right down to the backpacks and distressed jeans. No corner of the world is safe from the geek peril! If you've ever encountered the digital world in the developing world, please, tell us all about it.
